How partnering with Reflejo opened doors for Hannah
Hannah is a Peruvian woman who heard of missions for the first time at 17 years old. One day a missionary pastor spoke about how there were places where people have never heard of Jesus. Hannah was shocked and wanted to know more. “How can I reach these people God? I want to be the person you use to be where people need you” She prayed.
After that moment Hannah realized she had a calling and she asked God to show her a career path. Once she graduated from high school God led her to becoming an obstetrician. During this time Hannah juggled studying while working part time to make ends meet but she still maintained her eyes on God and trusted him to provide. Since many people in Latin America don’t know about missions it’s difficult for latinos to have a support system during their training. Hannah was able to push through but many others feel discouraged within this process and are not able to continue.
Hannah went through many challenging years but finally she felt ready to go out to the field. She reached out to many organizations but none of them knew what to do or how to send her. All doors seemed to be closed and she wasn’t able to find an organization that would help send her until years later.
While Hannah kept on searching and waiting, a faith-based NGO gave her an offer to facilitate several health prevention projects for the community. Hannah worked in the same area for many years but after some time she felt tired and restless. She was anxious to live out her calling but there was no one there to guide her towards the next steps.
Finally, new pastors came into her church and told her they would be ready to send her out in a year. That's when her church sent her for a few months to work with a medical NGO in the middle east. While she was there, she was able to interact with many Muslim women and pray with them for their needs.
After 3 months Hannah came back from her trip excited to go out to the field but wasn't sure how to proceed. That's when her church heard of Reflejo and reached out to us. After we heard of Hannah´s training and perseverance, we were excited to work with them and shortly after, she joined Reflejo. She began the process to apply for a visa but the pandemic hit and she went to stay with her family instead.
Now, with Reflejo, Hannah is on her way to the field. She needed an organization there to support her, help her, care for her and show her what she needed to do from the beginning. This is why Reflejo exists, we want Latinos everywhere to know we are here to make it easier so that they can live out their calling.
