DBS 17:17

Summary:

Reflejo staff are committed to being catalysts of Gospel Movements, i.e., when the good news of Jesus spreads contagiously through a network of social relationships whereby many people become committed followers of Jesus and groups of these disciples multiply. Gospel movements have the potential to radically impact whole towns, cities and nations. A reproducible tool that all Reflejo staff and missionaries learn is called DBS, which stands for Discovery Bible Study – a structured, yet informal, Bible based study that gathers together new friends who are interested in learning more about what the Bible says.

In 2023 Jessica, one of Reflejo’s leaders was asked to start a DBS group for mothers of students in a local school in Lima. The class began with 16 unbelieving women and 13 of them came to faith in Christ. The program has been so well received in transforming lives that 6 more schools in the area have asked the now growing team to start groups in their schools for parents, but also for their entire student body as a program to combat addictions, violence, suicide and gang involvement. To date, DBS 17:17 is in 4 schools, with over 50 professions of faith. We call it DBS 17:17 for the prayer found in the book of John, “Sanctify them (transform them) by your truth; Thy Word is truth.” (NIV)

Opportunities:

Form prayer teams or pray as individuals for God to raise a full time leader for this movement, for volunteers to be trained and lead new classes, for resources to cover expenses, for safety of our volunteers and for open hearts to receive the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Long term volunteers are needed. Volunteers go every day of the week and move from classroom to classroom, meeting once a week with every single class and once a week during the evening with parents that sign up. This Fall semester 2024, DBS 17:17 will be reaching, training, discipling over 2000 individuals per month in four schools (three more schools are on the waiting list – waiting for volunteers to be trained and to go).
During June, over 800 students and an average of 35 parents were reached in one school alone with 43 first time professions of faith. Sponsors are needed to ensure the gospel movement in Lima continues to grow exponentially, that many may hear the gospel and participate in ongoing Discovery Bible Studies or be taught or coached to reach and disciple others. Sponsors provide the following needs: Transportation, Refreshments, Ministry Supplies, Small gifts, Teaching and Coaching. You can>

Sponsor a classroom of 28-32 students for $100 per month
Sponsor a school of 20 classrooms and their parents, for $2000 for one month
