Victoria’s Story: Why An Agency Makes The Difference

Victoria and Guillermo received their calling years ago and left their hometown in Argentina after selling everything they had to travel to Asia. They went on their own without a sending agency and started learning the local language with a study visa once they arrived. After just 6 months they were called to an interview with government officials and they were told something that made their hearts drop. This is Victoria’s account:

“You have 10 days to leave the country,” they said. My husband and I exchanged glances in silence and stood still devastated.

Why would God bring us here just to send us away? It didn’t make any sense so we went home and prayed. Even though nobody understood us at the time, God gave us peace to stay and wait. Eventually, God opened a huge door that led to us being there for 9 more years.

During those 9 years we went through many challenges. Our only source of consolation and refuge was God. We faced many situations where we didn’t know what to do and we had to go directly to God for answers because there was no one we could turn to.

One of the hardest things we had to go through was losing our family members back home while being on the field. We realized we had no one to share our struggles with.

When we came back to Argentina, God granted the desire in our hearts to find an agency we could trust and lean on. After many years, we discovered Reflejo and found people who understood us, people who had experienced many difficult things on the field and had truly lived by faith. It was such a blessing for me to be able to rely on someone to follow up on our visas, our challenges, give us their time in mentorship, listen to us and even give us English classes so we could continue studying.

We have learned that we can’t do this alone. We are all a family and we are part of the body of Christ.

We are now back on the field and this time it’s different. We know that if we reach out, there are people on the other end that can understand us and help us. We are grateful in our hearts because we don't have to face ministry alone anymore.
